The Dream Song of Olaf Åsteson: An Ancient Norwegian Folksong of the Holy Nights
The Dream Song of Olaf Åsteson is a folksong that came to light only in 1850, when a cleric by the name of Landstad heard it in a lonely valley in Telemark, Norway. No one knows how long it had existed. “The Dream Song” is an epic narrative telling the story of a young man who slept for twelve nights during the depths of winter, and then awoke to share the wondrous sights he had witnessed.
This edition is illustrated with Janet Jordan’s striking paintings, which give life to Olaf Åsteson and help modern readers engage with this remarkable ancient saga.
