Tistou: The Boy with Green Thumbs

When eight-year-old Tistou is sent home from school, his parents decide that he wall learn from real life instead, and where better to start than gardening? With Moustache the dreamy gardener, Tistou discovers a remarkable gift—that he has green thumbs! Everything he touches sprouts beautiful plants. Now Tistou has lots to do. With the power of flowers, he can change everything—prisons, slums, hospitals…even war.

A witty, charming, and wise tale about an unlikely guerrilla gardener, Tistou is a French children’s classic that ranks with The Little Prince and The Man who Planted Trees.

About the Author

Maurice Druon (1918–2009) was awarded the Prix Goncourt at thirty and entered the Académie française in 1966. He served as Culture Minister from 1972 to 1974 and helped translate Anna Marly’s Chant des Partisans, the anthem of the World War II French Resistance. As a French novelist, his best-known works are Le Roi de fer (The Iron King); La Reine étranglée (The Strangled Queen); and Quand un Roi perd la France (When a King Loses France). Tistou (1957) stands as the unexpected flower he cultivated just for children.

Ashley Ramsden is founding director of the School of Storytelling, the longest established center of its kind in the UK. He has toured with his remarkable storytelling programs on five continents and has appeared at major storytelling festivals in the UK, South Africa, Scandinavia and, North America. He is as much at home telling in the Sydney Opera House or alongside the London Symphony Orchestra as he is in a family living room. Ashley’s unique methods of teaching voice and the skills of the storyteller have received international acclaim. After living for two years in the U.S., in 1988 he returned to England, where at Emerson College he soon began to host an annual International Storytelling Symposium with storyteller/author Nancy Mellon.
