The prince is looking for a true princess to be his wife, but all the girls he meets are too rude, too vain, or too greedy. One stormy night a young woman knocks on the palace door claiming to be a princess, so the queen decides to put her to the test. Will she feel the pea underneath the huge pile of mattresses?

This classic fairy tale is wonderfully brought to life by the soft, colorful illustrations of popular illustrator Maja Dusíková.

About the Author

Hans Christian Andersen (1805–1875) was a Danish author and poet best known for his fairy tales. Among his most well known stories are “The Snow Queen,” “The Little Mermaid,” “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” and “The Ugly Duckling.” During Andersen’s lifetime, he was feted by Royalty and acclaimed for bringing joy to children throughout Europe. His fairy tales have been translated into more than a hundred languages and continue to be published in millions of copies all over the world.

Maja Dusíková was born in Slovakia in 1946. She has illustrated more than forty books for children. She lives with her family in Florence, Italy.
