More Lifeways: Sharing Parenting & Family Paths

More Lifeways invites the sharing of experiences of parenting and family paths. Authors write from their hearts, offering readers space for encouragement and support. There are no easy answers to the challenges of parenting. However, learning from each others’ experiences can help on the many journeys that different families tread.

This book invites the reader into conversations about matters to question, to explore, and to build on. These include moments for laughter, for joy and for being deeply moved. The authors offer many practical and wise insights to prepare the way ahead.

With the first volume, Lifeways, readers said they “felt met, strengthened, inspired, sometimes saved by the book lying half-read on the bedside table.” More Lifeways offers further help—a ready source of help for parents.

Included in this volume are twenty-seven articles on a wide variety of themes relevant to the challenges of modern parenting—for example:

• listening and the art of relationship
• inner development
• money, sex and power
• spirituality
• shadow and wonder
• single parenting
• fathering
• mid-life changes
• death and dying in the family
• needs of children in the 1990s
• international adoption
• being adopted
• sports and our children
• television
• alternatives to video media
• adolescence
• raising our daughters
• and more . . .

About the Author

SIGNE EKLUND SCHAEFER was the founding director of a professional development program in Biography and Social Art, one of several activities of the Center for Biography and Social Art. A teacher of adults for many decades, she has been a student of life for as long as she can remember. Never having heeded what was told her as a child—not to ask so many questions—she continues to love learning. Her desire to know more about the multiple dimensions of human development led her as a young person to the work of Rudolf Steiner and to Waldorf education. She directed Foundation Studies at Sunbridge College for more than twenty years and was on the faculty of Emerson College in Sussex England before that. She continues to teach both nationally and internationally, including at several recent workshops in China. She coauthored Ariadne’s Awakening, a book on gender questions and coedited the parenting book More Lifeways. A mother and grandmother, she now lives in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, with her husband Christopher Schaefer.
