InSchool Store Program

InSchool Store Program

A Rudolf Steiner Bookstore in your school

For 50 years Rudolf Steiner Bookstore has offered Anthroposophical and Waldorf books and supplies to students, parents and teachers, and to anyone else curious enough to find their way to us.

For much of that time a bookstore in a school was an ordinary thing. As the financial landscape changed, Waldorf schools changed with it, and a school store was usually among the first things left out. Inventory, staffing, payment handling and sales tax asked too much of a school’s resources and schedules.

The InSchool Store Program puts the store back in the school. It is an extension of our own store, carried into your school, stocked to your curriculum and your school’s ethos, and built so that nobody has to attend to it full time and nothing has to be bought.

How it works

1

What Rudolf Steiner Bookstore provides

  • Inventory: we do all the purchasing and reordering.
  • A self-checkout station with card payments and a barcode reader
  • Bookkeeping and sales tax
  • A donation to the school of 10% of the retail price of everything sold, in the store and online through the school’s own referral link
  • Discounts for school staff and for the school
2

What the host school provides

  • A secure, supervised place for the store, such as a main office or waiting room
  • Shelving, electricity and internet
  • One staff member as Bookstore Coordinator: the program contact, restocking, returns, and a short inventory count twice a year

Support the program

Help the next school have their own InSchool store.

Each new InSchool Store costs about $4,500 to set up: its own self-checkout station, barcode scanner, labels and start-up costs, including registering to collect sales tax in a new state. Donations to the InSchool Store Program Fund cover these costs, so that each school on our wait list can finally have the store they’ve always wanted for their community.

You can add a donation when you check out, or donate directly here.

Any amount helps. Choose $25, $50, $100 or your own amount; your receipt is emailed right away.

Sponsor a store

Would you like to bring an InSchool Store to a particular school? A donation of $4,500 covers the full start-up cost of one store. With your permission, we’ll recognize you as the store’s sponsor on this page and at the store itself.

Parents and friends of a school can also raise it together: we’ll set up a donation page for your school with its own goal and progress bar.
