Arts Therapies
Arts therapies within the anthroposophic tradition use painting, drawing, sculpture, music, and speech as therapeutic modalities to address illness, trauma, and developmental challenges. Unlike conventional art therapy, which emphasizes psychological expression, anthroposophic arts therapies work with the inherent healing qualities of color, tone, form, and language as understood through Rudolf Steiner’s spiritual science.
This collection of approximately 50 titles covers painting therapy using Steiner’s color indications, sculptural modeling as a means of working with formative forces, therapeutic music based on the intervals and scales described in Steiner’s music lectures, and speech formation exercises drawn from the Speech and Drama course. Authors include Margarethe Hauschka, whose work on artistic therapy and rhythmical massage has been foundational, as well as practitioners such as Eva Mees-Christeller and Maria Geraets. Clinical case studies and practical manuals sit alongside the theoretical groundwork from Steiner’s own lectures on the arts and healing.
