Evelyn Francis Capel: A Celebration of a Pioneering Spirit

This book tells the life story of Evelyn Francis Capel (1911–2000). She was born in Stow-on-the-Wold in the Cotswold Hills and earned a degree in history at Somerville College, Oxford, before studying for the priesthood at The Christian Community seminary in Stuttgart. She was ordained in 1939 as the first British female priest of the movement and worked intensely for more than fifty years for its development around the world. She is fondly remembered for her numerous books, her lively lectures and workshops, and her dedicated work as a priest and counsellor.

This volume features more than a hundred contributions from around the world, including accounts of her work during the war and post-war years, her pioneering international work, her books, the establishment of the center at Temple Lodge, as well as recollections from fellow students and a section on the Sacraments.

Also included are personal tributes and testimonies to Evelyn’s help and guidance, as well as photographs.
