The Old Testament is full of wonderful stories and, in this insightful book Frieling considers some of the best known, as well as some that may be less familiar.

Beginning with the two complementary accounts of the creation of humankind, he examines the sacrifice of Isaac, Balaam’s donkey, the three men in the furnace, and four psalms. He includes chapters on the idea of multiple Gods and the building of the tabernacle in relation to the creation of the world.

Frieling’s attention to details of the text brings the rich imagery of Old Testament stories to life, while throughout the book the movement toward Christ’s incarnation and act of redemption is always in sight.

About the Author

Rudolf Frieling (1901-1986) was one of the founders of The Christian Community. Before becoming the leader of this movement for religious renewal in 1957, his work took him to Leipzig, Vienna, New York and Stuttgart. He is the author of many books on Christian thinking.
