Trust in the Future: Facing Uncertain Times with Confidence
Nothing is more unpredictable than the future of humanity and our world. Nevertheless, even in the face of such uncertainty, can we still develop trust in the future?
In this thought-provoking book, Bastiaan Baan explores the many ways that, through the ages, humanity has tried to predict the future—from using ancient forms of clairvoyance to more recent methods based on technical expertise and social trends. He looks at ancient mythologies, visionary practices of prophets and shamans, and the sublime if often terrifying images found in the biblical Revelations. Drawing on the work of Rudolf Steiner, he interprets their imaginative language and identifies impulses at work in humanity today.
Baan insists that, whereas predicting the future might not be possible, how we view events can be equally or even more important than the events themselves. He suggests that adopting a more positive and open attitude can be a necessary first step in taking action.
Trust in the Future will speak to all those who ask themselves: What can I do to build a better future?
