Seven Steps to Eternity is the account of James Legett, a young soldier killed at the Battle of the Somme, who reached back across the threshold of death to tell his story. Over two years the healer Stephen Turoff received and set it down — not the brief years of Legett’s earthly life, but the journey of his soul in the time after. A quiet, warm, and unexpectedly hopeful book on what death is, and is not.

Seven Steps to Eternity: The True Story of One Man’s Journey into the Afterlife—as Told to “Psychic Surgeon” Stephen Turoff

“I died in the Battle of the Somme . . .” These are the astonishing first words spoken to clairvoyant and healer Stephen Turoff by the soul of James Legett, a young soldier who was killed in World War I.

For two years, the world-famous psychic surgeon communicated with the soldier’s soul and, in the process, wrote down his remarkable story—not the tale of Legett’s tragically short life on the physical plane, but about his death on a battlefield in France and his soul’s subsequent journey into the afterlife.

“When a soul first leaves its body, it falls into a sleep-like state and awakens on the plane of the astral world suitable for it. I am often questioned about this term ‘plane,’ and the nearest answer is a ‘state’ of vibration. For example, sound waves; ultraviolet waves from the sun; rays from an electric lamp; all of these are invisible, each interpenetrating, yet do not affect or interfere with each other. So it is with the planes in the astral world.” (S. Turoff)

Although he works with many discarnate spirits at his clinic, the dyslexic Turoff was initially reluctant to undertake the task of writing a book. But he was persuaded by the boisterous and genial soul of the man who had died. Their literary collaboration involved an unusual method—Legett presented spiritual pictures to Turoff, who then interpreted them into words through clairvoyant perception. The result is this enlightening testimony of life beyond the illusion of death—filled with insight, spiritual wisdom, and delightful humor.

The author wrote this book to show that we are all eternal—there is no death, only change.

About the Author

Stephen Turoff is a spiritual healer who became known, over many years, for the unusual work carried out at his clinic — work he described as a cooperation with helpers beyond the visible world. He did not set out to be a writer; he is dyslexic, and was at first reluctant to take on a book at all. Seven Steps to Eternity came about another way. For two years Turoff worked with the soul of James Legett — the young soldier killed at the Battle of the Somme — receiving the spiritual pictures Legett showed him and rendering them into words. The book that resulted is less something Turoff authored than something he carried across the threshold on another’s behalf.
