Plantain Spruce Cough Syrup
This syrup begins in Uriel’s own gardens. The lance-like leaves of Plantago lanceolata are harvested there, the growing tips are collected from local spruce trees, and both are made into extracts before being combined into a base of organic sugar cane juice and water. Wild cherry and vanilla go in for flavour — which is the reason children will take it without an argument — along with homeopathic amounts of butterbur root, sundew, Christmas rose and china bark.
Why plantain and spruce? Observation of nature is the key to anthroposophic medicine, and the reasoning here is worth following. Coughs tend to be complaints of the cold and dark part of the year. Chilled lungs collect excess fluid — a water process occurring in the wrong place — and the cough itself is the body’s attempt to clear the airways. What is wanted is warmth held on the inside, and fluid kept where it belongs.
Plantain thrives in cold, wet ground and carries a tenacious, light-related quality: it grows straight to the sun, and its hairs are rich in silica, the substance of quartz. Spruce brings a structured, resinous, aromatic warmth that works against the same cold and wet. Between them the two plants show the response the body is itself trying to make.

How to use
