The Raising of Lazarus
At the exact center, like the heart and spiritual turning point of the composition of the Gospel of John, is the most minutely described account of the Raising of Lazarus. At the same time, it represents the climax of an ascending path of manifestation of the working of the Christ during the three years of the latter’s earthly life between his baptism and ascension.
In one of his fundamental books, Christianity as Mystical Fact and the Mysteries of Antiquity, the Austrian philosopher ad educator Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925) described this Lazarus event as the climax and fulfilment of the spiritual asperations of human beings from most ancient times, including the ancient East, the centuries before, during and after Plato’s life, the days of Buddha and his followers, the age of the Egyptian priest-kings, ultimately culminating in the life of Christ and his Deed on Golgotha and Resurrection at the turning-point of the entire history of man’s life on earth. -from the Introduction
