Painting & Color Theory
Painting and color theory in the anthroposophic context build upon Goethe’s phenomenological approach to color — treating colors as living experiences arising from the interplay of light and darkness. Rudolf Steiner extended Goethe’s insights with indications for wet-on-wet watercolor (veil painting or Lazure), now central to Waldorf education.
This collection of approximately 50 titles includes Michael Howard’s practical guides to Goethean color principles, Gerard Wagner’s explorations of color and the soul, and Steiner’s lectures collected in Colour (GA 291). Studio manuals for Lazure wall painting and pastel work sit alongside studies of how individual colors relate to spiritual realities.
